Servant Leadership Experiences
No Excuses University (Fall 2014 - Present) - The ELA junior class writes letters and Skypes with a 3rd grade class out of Sheppard, MT. Many of these kids come from tough family backgrounds and our goal as a class is to inspire these kids to attend college. The class was planning a trip to Montana to surprise them and help in the classroom, but the trip has been canceled due to lack of budget.
University of Mary tours for Wachter Middle School (December 11th) - The ELA junior class put on a tour for a local middle to show the students a college experience and give them an idea of what college classes are like. This event was an all day affair for the students. The Students traveled around the campus with guides and explored all of the classrooms, labs, field house, cafeteria, lecture halls, and dorm rooms.
Day of Service (Fall 2014) - The ELA Junior class went to a preschool and cleaned up their playground, raked leaves, put wire of lights to prevent birds from making nests, sanitized toys, organized closets, organized worksheets, and cut out decorations. For the second half of the day, we painted the adult resource center. This included their stretch of hallways and the reception area.
Building a house for a veteran (Spring 2015) - The Junior ELA class has been put in-charge of putting together $5,000 to fund a room for a marine who lost his leg while on tour. There are many jobs and the one I am helping out with is soliciting money to help fund this house.
Cub Scout Day Camp (Summer 2012 and 2013) - The Boy Scouts of America hosted a cub scout day camp, which ran for three days for three weeks in the summer. I helped set-up and run the fishing station. Cub Scouts came from all over Bismarck and a few neighboring cities, to participate in a day jam-packed with fun activities.
Day of Caring (Summer 2014) - I helped clear camp Neche (Just West of University of Mary) of debris and branches, cut weeds, remove a rotted cabin from the flood, and stain their rock climbing wall. Most of the work required heavy machinery, so most of the work I completed was racking leaves and staining their rock climbing wall.
